• General Tso Sauce (左宗棠酱) is a Chinese-American sauce usually made with soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, water, sriracha sauce, and hoisin sauce for a Chinese dish in America - General Tso's Chicken (左宗棠鸡). Although it is named after Zuo Zongtang (Chinese:左宗棠 Webster Pinyin:Tso Tsung-tang), a famous general in Hunan, China, in fact, it has nothing to do with him. The inventor was Chinese cook Peng Chang-kuei (彭长贵) during the Republic of China in 1952.
